Well, now it’s our turn to recognize those behind the scenes driving successful change & growth within their organizations.
We are ecstatic to feature Candice Williams, Strategy Manager at the Development Bank of Jamaica, in our very first Customer Spotlight.
The Development Bank of Jamaica’s mission is to provide opportunities for all Jamaicans to improve their quality of life through developing financing, capacity building, public-private partnership, and privatization solutions in keeping with Government policy. In addition to providing funding and technical assistance to large projects, the DBJ has expanded and improved its assistance to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME). Through its support, the DBJ helps drive the engine of economic growth and development, especially in small economies.
The Development Bank of Jamaica Limited (DBJ) is a wholly-owned Government institution and its only shareholder is the Accountant-General. The Bank is a result of the merger of two national development entities, the Agricultural Credit Bank Limited, and the National Development Bank, on April 1, 2000. The National Investment Bank of Jamaica Limited was further combined into the DBJ in 2006.
Outside of being an incredible customer, Candice, and the DBJ team have always been a welcoming group, always willing to help share their success in strategy and execution.
Our team sat down with Candice to learn more about the day in the life of our customers. To read more about how the Development Bank of Jamaica uses AchieveIt, check out their Customer story.

What are your roles and responsibilities at DBJ?
I am the Manager for Strategy at the Development Bank of Jamaica, where I am responsible for leading and implementing the Bank’s Strategic Planning process, including but not limited to strategy formulation & translation, target setting, target decomposition, and initiative crafting, as well as leading the execution of the Bank’s monitoring and evaluation activities. Some of the Bank’s M&E activities include assisting with the development & implementation of the Banks Monitoring & Evaluation Policy Framework.
What does your typical day-to-day look like?
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, I work from home, and currently, my typical day starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. It includes online meetings, responding to numerous emails and actioning them, providing feedback to the M&E Officer on various deliverables, following up with General Managers regarding various deliverables, preparing reports, and depending on the time of the year it would include planning meetings with all levels of staff (Board, Senior Management, Middle Management & Non-Management Team members).
All this while my 1-year-old daughter is playing around my work table, trying to get my attention!
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
I work with a great team of people, and they make my work easy and enjoyable. I really love my job and that motivates me as well.
What is the hardest part about your job?
A significant portion of my job requires the input of people and continuously following up with people in order to get their updates so that I can complete my various deliverables. This can be very difficult.
What has been your biggest accomplishment in your current role?
It is difficult for me to select one accomplishment. The first is the successful rollout and cascading of the Bank’s Corporate Plan & Budget to all team members, as well as everyone seeing and understanding how their role contributes to the Bank achieving its vision. The second accomplishment is the continuous submission of our Corporate Plan & Budget to the Ministry of Economic Growth & Job Creation & the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service ahead of its due date each year.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am a car enthusiast – I love sporty, fast cars! I not only love to look at them, but I also love driving them! I would love to own a Subaru WRX one day, that’ll be my weekend car.
